Sven Helbig

SVEN is part of a generation of composers that no longer acknowledges the traditional lines between the world of classical composing, experimental art and pop music. He composes choir, orchestra and chamber music for classical concert venues and goes on tour with electronic music. In his solo concerts he radically edits his orchestra compositions – deconstructs and recreates them out of electronic clusters. Hovering vibraphone sounds, synth surrogates, opulent strings and breakcore beats are all part of his powerful musical arsenal. SVEN is a „Composer in Residence” at the National University San Martin at Buenos Aires.
His debut „Pocket Symphonies“ was released on Deutsche Grammophon in 2013, to be followed by the choral album I EAT THE SUN AND DRINK THE RAIN this year on the new, Berlin based label NEUE MEISTER. SVEN is co-founder of the Dresdner Sinfoniker, the first European orchestra exclusively dedicated to contemporary music. SVEN will be on tour with I EAT THE SUN AND DRINK THE RAIN in autumn 2016/spring 2017. In this powerful production soft choir pads meet pulsing Synths and majestic a cappella chords are morphing with Sven´s digital sound creations. The hypnotic visuals are done by Islandic artist Máni M. Sigfusson, who is also responsible for the picture world of Ólafur Arnalds and Kiasmos. The Berlin fashion designer Esther Perbandt created the choir´s costumes.
